Any Ideas
Jess
Should i use a round pen to trot her and stuff before i ride her

You need to teach her to wait for you. In other words not to do anything untill you tell her to. If she is not doing that then you may need to go back to the ground and work with her on all the basic stuff such as: teach her to respect your space (3 ft circle). This is the idea of a round pen. Not to flog your horse (all though alot of people do this) untill she tired. Maybe she dosn't understand what you want when you get in the saddle. If you can't move her around on the ground real free (step her hindend around ect...) then you will not be able to do it in the saddle. Does she lower her head for you on demand without much fuss? This may take some time and you don't want to rush it.
There is just so much going on here that it can't all be covered in the reply. Get the "True Horsemanship Through Feel" book by Bill Dorrance. Running your horse in a round pen is not the answer. That will just make her/him stronger and be able to run longer.
Another thing, you did not say what you are feeding her (I don't mean brand) and how much a day. The more protine the more energy.

Round pens are awesome. I use one they are great.
My sisters mare is like yours shes about half arab so that probably has something to do with it. And its alright to let your pregnant mare run till she gets a few months along. I think the round pen is a good idea

Until I was stationed in Phoenix and bought my own horse I had never in my life ridden a horse in an arena or round pen - always just trails.

I find I really enjoy working my boy. I haven't had him long and find he too enjoys running and at first will buck for a while. Before I left I was working with him to get him to stop that behavior. Unforuntately, I am deployed right now and my husband doesn't know enough about horses to continue my work so I will have to start over again when I return but at least its enjoyable for me and we both learn.

a round pen is the most important tool you can get not cheep neather

A round pen may be a good tool if used right, however that does not seem to be the issue here. The way I see it is, Jessica wants to calm her horse by running her in the round pen until she is tired and does not want to run any more. This is not what a round pen is for (see my first post).

I agree with Rrgunslinger, with the following:

Tom's brother Bill Dorrance also has a book out, which has more detail and is very helpful. The title is "True Horsemanship Through Feel", the ISBN is 1-58574-321-6. Just like Tom's book, it requires that you read it and think about it a lot.

If you are wanting your mare to calm down, don't drive her in a round pen. Just spend lots of time with her. My grandfather taught me that the easiest way to catch a horse was to ignore it.

Also, as Rr asked about, what are you feeding her? Plenty of good grass, hay, and a little grain is best...they aren't really designed to digest complex diets. In my experience, my father-in-law's 'hot' racehorses calm right down when you take the sweet feed away from them and give them all the grass they can eat.

Hope this is helpful...

Less IS More Horsemanship
While round pens are a good viable training tool for horses, they are probably one of the most, if not THE MOST, abused tool in horsemanship....

here is a link to short article on why i am against "round penning" and dont work horses in a round pen except for maybe the first couple of rides.....
