Hi ....
I am new here and I just bought my first horse, she kinda fell into my lap really. I have questions, lots a questions...so many questions! I don't even know where to start except...hi, I am Tricia, my horse's name is Star, she is a 9 year old Arab X mare and I adore her. We bought about a month ago from some people at church and right now we are boarding her at the local bible camp until a more suitable arrangement can be found, I was boarding her at a different place for about a month but I walked out into the pasture to see her and the resident teenager was beating her with an extension cord, needless to say she was moved that night. Well anyway that is a start.

Hi
I am from Texas. I'm glad you have found a horse that you really like and kuddos to you for getting her out from the barn with the bad news idiot kid..you should've turned her into the humane society for what she was doing...ewwwww
My parents had stables for most of my life and I've told them they need to write a book on the past customers they've had through the yrs......I still miss alot of them....A few were like the one that you encountered...bad news...and some were...let's just say, different or really wacky....hmmmm but for the most part we really learned alot from living around so many different people and the lives they led....Oh and good luck with you mare.....Horses are really wonderful and good for the heart.....

Howdy,
Good thing you found out about the teenager whipping your horse. I think they got off easy. People don't realize how they can mess up a horse doing that kind of thing. Good thing it wasn't me who caught this person (if you can call him/her that).
As far as questions, I was in the same boat as you two years ago. Some old cowboy gave me my first horse and now I have two. Be careful who you listen to. There is alot of missinformed (uneducated) horse experts out there (as I have found out the hard way and you have probably just met some). We are all on this BBS for one reason. We Love Our Horses! and want the best for them.
Check out some of the old post. You will find it very informative. Other than that, ask away!
Thank you ....
I really am already attached to my horse!
The kid was frustrated because he couldn't catch her and was supposedly trying to rope her ....with an extensioncord???? Whatever...his parents dealt with him and at the time when I told him to stop he verbally attacked me. I felt the best response to the situation was to get some guys over there and get her moved before one of us (me or my poor little mare) got hurt further by this young person. I did ride my mare for the first time yesterday...it was awesome!Only the staff ride her at camp because her natural stride is too fast for trail rides.

I don't think I could control myself if I caught someone beating my horse. I can tell you they would at least get the same thing they gave the horse, a whipping with an extension cord. -phillip

HI! Robswife, I'm glad you found a horse and know it won't be your last. Ha! Ha! 15 years ago I got my first, and since then I have had 18 not counting their babys. Boy! i don't know what I would do if I found anyone hitting one of my horses. Well yes I do , but it wouldn't be legel.Good luck, and I hope you will get a place where you can see your horse every morning. It's the greatest feeling to have them right out side.

Welcome to ya Rob's wife. Glad u joined us. Good luck with your mare. Just out of curiosity, have you had any problems catching her since the incident with the fool and the extension cord? I'm thinkin' she just didnt want him to catch her!!
I had problems with her the morning before I caught him mistreating her ....never since ...she is at camp so the wrangler there does most of the "work" for me so that I don't have to contend with camp horses

Welcome to the horse world with your first horse of many. Don't laugh, we bought our first horse five or six years ago and now have seven. I recommend that you find a horse person in your area like the wrangler at the camp where you board and just ask a lot of questions. We were like you several years ago when we bought our first horse but have learned alot by being around ather horse people and asking questions, reading magazines, watching a lot of RFD TV and attending clinics.
Iknow ... Horses are amlost as addictive as Dogs...lol...you have to have a different dog for every job you know...I am a dog trainer by proffession so I can find an excuse for a new pup in almost any situation..In fact I have already been looking longingly through the western producer for a mini to keep my mare company...lol...last thing I need right now though ...
Well the summer is almost over and we got "the call" we have to move Star again, camp only keeps horses in the summer. Any suggestions for questions I should ask? I know that I am going to be a little more dicerning about who touches my horse now.
Any suggestions for ways to find a place to board is appreciated.
Thanks guys

This is all very different for me. I have been at my present livery yard for 4 years now, we are all like one large family helping each other out , staying up all night with a sick horse no matter who it belongs to. There are about thirty of us alltogether. I have to say I'd probably beat the brains out of the first person I saw laying a hand on any horse not just mine. So I'm really glad you got yours away quickly.....B
Well as an update...we moved Star in with the horses she has lived with for the last 6 years....the guy who sold her to me offered to let us put her in for free until we can get things set up at the farm for her. (we pay feed and vet of course but right now they are out on Grass ) The reason he sold her is becasue the mares pick on her but it is a good situation for now. I think we should be able to move her to the farm in a couple of months.
