Hello to you all! Has anyone tried the Mikmar Training Bit? It was design by Frank Evans in 1953. Thanks for your input!

I'd be curious to hear from anybody who's tried one too, they are without a doubt the ugliest, clunkiest looking bits I've ever seen. Maybe they work okay?

A friend of mine tried it and her horse hated it... Tossed her head and bucked even more! I looked at some of the "before and after" photos and was not impressed. In most of the before photos, the rider is very tense, holding the reins tight, and sitting "hard" in the saddle. In the after photos, the rider has relaxed the reins, is sitting quieter, and has a slightly longer rein. DUH! Of course the horse will relax and lower it's head with the rider rides right! lol
A bit is no replacement for solid training, proper saddle fit, and correct rider form. Also, the bit has to "fit" the horse. Some horses have low pallats (sp?) and cannot take a ported or snaffle mouth bit, so they need a mullen mouth or very low port. Others have sensitive tounges and require a port or three piece snaffle mouth. Undetected wolf teeth or sharp points on molars can also cause head tossing. All of this must be taken into consideration before the next "miracle bit" is purchased.
