Glad to see the forum back on line...seemed like an eternity. I check it a couple times a day so it felt like I had lost my friends. I cant thank everyone enough for your encouragement. I just started lessons this year and my confidence level is much improved over how I was feeling a few months ago. Im getting into a nice comfortable trot with the lesson horses...getting the bouncing under control. I spend alot of time grooming and spending time on the ground with them and have created a very special bond. I do have a question though. My trainer recently aquired an older barrel horse that had to stop competing due to cataracs. I love this horse, smooth as silk, responsive and an incredible temperment. How successful/risky is catarac surgery for horses. What can you tell me about horses with this condition?

Welcome back. I lost a horse with a degenerative cataract problem in 2004. It was not correctable by surgery but I did find out that surgery was very expensive. I'm sure the horse you are interested in is very nice, however there are lots of good horses around and won't set you back with vet bills right from the start. Buying a horse is an expensive deal with gear, board, etc so be careful you don't fall in love with a money pit. It's easy to do and we've all done it at some point. Good luck.
I am soooo glad this board is back!!!
I missed you guys!
Let's never fight again!
