so any of you cowboys/cowgirls like to dress up in original time period clothing. three of us that ride together on a constant basis love to dress up in authentic cowboy clothing. we arent into the single action shooting society(sass)were you have to have the exact authentic stuff but we like to go to our local goodwill stores or clothing banks and buy shirts and cut the collars off and you can find old suit vest that can be worn and we buy sport coats that when worn with the vest and shirts make it look pretty close to authentic without paying big bucks for that type clothing. we do buy pants that are authentic becuase they have the suspender buttons and we buy the suspender and wild rags but thats about it as far as the clothing. you can buy lower end cowboy hats for 40.00 at the tractor supply stores then go home and steam them and punch out the brim and flatten down the sides for the authentic look. we all have our 44/40 outlaw pistols that we carry on our rides. its just something we like to do that i thought i would share and to see if anybody else does this.

Wild West Mercantile has a good selection & their prices are reasonable in comparison to some of the other shops.

Don't know about any of you other guys out there but I've worn old suit vests & suspenders for as long as I can remember. Long before I'd ever heard of SASS or mounted shooters. Wear 'em for the same reason as the guys in 1880 I guess; they're warm under your coat & have lots of pockets. Many of my old jeans have suspender buttons sewn on them. Just born a hundred years too late I guess. Some of that old frontier stuff is good, but it can get expensive. Wah Maker has the best stuff I think.

thanks for the link ranchropper. wah maker stuff is good but you pay about twice as much for it than some other brands. cant beat those suit vest, like you said good for layering and storage, i carry an old pocket watch and its a necessity for my vest to have a pocket watch pocket. sass from what i understand is pretty strict on apparel and how it is worn for their compititions but old cowboys wore pretty much what they could get their hands on for as little money as possible, hince our clothing bank buying.

Check Drover's Mercantile in Kansas as well, owner Jim Gray is a pretty good fella to deal with. I got my Garcia spurs thru him awhile back.

Texas Jack in Fredericksburg Texas has a big selection. Katus Korner near Gonzales has better prices. I have to have my shirts made, I'm 6'8" and 300+. I do shoot CAS. I also wear this stuff alot just because. I guess not including the guns and gunleather, I have about $3,000 worth of late 1800s stuff. I even carry an 1894 Lancet Pocket Watch when I'm not working.
