Mustang Blue
He's not home yet, but my 12 yr old daughter fell head over heals with this mustang (and he, her) that was rescued from a feedlot. Max (temperary name we don't care for) will soon be my daughter's very own mustang. She's is looking for ideas for a name for him...any suggestions?

[Frown] I was going to post some pix, but photobucket seems to be down at the moment.
He is black as night, with a diamond (or upside down teardrop..as my daughter says, lol)
15 - 15 1/2 hands, solid built with head and feet that suggest some draft mix in his background. I'll need to locate a 5 1/2 inch mouth snaffle. He has a small white spot on his side and 2 white hind pasterns. His freezebrand tells us he was captured out of Wyoming, and is 8 years old.
I can't imagine anyone sending this big gentle giant to slaughter...where he would've been going had Ahimsa Horse rescue not stepped in and rescued him! I'll post pix as soon as photobucket gets their act together.
Thanks for any name suggestions!

Congratulations. What a handsome boy. Your daughter must be very proud to have such a special boy. Picking names is the hardest! I know in time the perfect name will come to her. Enjoy!

What a beautiful horse!! Perhaps the name Teardrop as in tears of happiness that this horse was rescued.

Thanks sparrowhawk. We have been considering a few Lakota names, since she is 1/2 Lakota, but we thought it would be fun to get ideas from all our friends as well [Smile] Then maybe translate it to Lakota.

Palama ya ye, mitakola. (Thankyou my friend)

VERY nice! Congrats to you all. I'm no help with names - around my house he'd end up with the name Black. I have a Blue, a Red, a Paint, a Dusty... [Roll Eyes]

Thanks everyone! I personally loved your ideas! They were ALL good ones! I especially liked the last few suggestions...but he's not mine to name..and 12 yr olds will be 12 yr olds, lol.

Out of the clear blue sky, she came up with a name (kinda, ummm, well, ummm, ???, lol)

"Secoy" She wants to call him Secoy.

hey lona--

it's a cool name...what does it mean, or what is it short for? (or, do we just not ask???)

she needed to name HER horse....and that is way too cool....

I am a little confused. He was rescued from a feedlot? I have never seen a horse at a feedlot that needed rescued. What am I missing? As for names....I like

Throckmorton
Terwilliger
Bartholemew
Just kidding. I did hear a kid at the yards a few weeks ago refer to a big bay he was riding as "Dagger" and I thought that was a good one. At my place I've got Blue, Dunny, Sorrely, Spot, and 'ol Bay. Guess I aint all that creative.

For those that don't know, I give most of my ponies 'reel' or real Old West Names. Like I sold Wild Bill and now have Emmett Dalton.

A Colorado kill buyer had purchased them, he regularly took shipments to Cavel, but whenever he would buy mustangs, he usually took them over to Mexico....Ahimsa Horse Rescue asked him about 2 geldings that were in the feedlot where he was holding the others he had purchased and was readying a trip to Cavel...he allowed Ahimsa to bond them out.....which saved them from going to Mexico.
