BTW, they are still excepting applications from trainers for the challenge. $10,000 grand prize!

Peaeye, you up to it? Any other trainers here?
NW
Looks interesting, was interested in it until I started reading the fine print in the rules and the application. I wouldn't take a horse to train from anybody that placed the restrictions that were listed in the BLM information. I am not into abusing horses or neglecting them. I just don't like the idea of being under a microscope and the thought of being judged before the judging actually takes place.

I'll have to go read those NW, I didn't because I'm only going as a spectator.

Mustang Blue....Thanks for letting us know......I think I will apply as this will work with my schedule.......

NW....the rules are basically BLM requirements for adopting a mustang.....the Foundation did add some conduct rules, but nothing you can't live with.......

I just hope they don't "overdo" this Mustang Challenge deal and make it commonplace and routine......

Let me know if you do Peaeye! I'll be sitting in the cheering section with about half a dozen other gals, lol. I plan to wear the same shirt I have on in my profile pic.

As for making it commonplace and routine...I do think I see it going there...there is MONEY involved! Just take one look at the prices the TX EMM horses went for...
But this is small town, and should'nt be as commercialized as TX was.
They are doing one in CA and WI too.

So Peaeye, anymore thoughts on this? Are you going to apply? Let me know, and you'll have your very own cheer section of about 8 or 10 gals [Smile]

MB,

trying to make sure my schedule will allow me to do this........wouldn't want to do it if I couldn't do my best......

BLM staff is pushing hard for me to "take it on" as well you and other friends. I'll let you know what I decide.......
Mustang Blue
I totally understand...and am happy to know that you won't unless you can devote your best to it. I wish more people were like that.

I just heard from the Mustang Heritage Foundation, and they only have 10 applicants signed up for the Wyoming Mustang Challenge so far [Frown] There is only one week left to get applications in, so please help spread the word or get your applications turned in now in order to have a chance at winning a $10,000 purse in this compition. A minimum of 25 trainers are needed in order to make this event a success.

I have a lame question. Why would anyone waste time trying to make a "mustang" something to ride? I thought folks just ran them for sport! Could be like the old days where they ran them for fun and an income. In the depression they were worth 1 cent per pound, and thats about all they are worth now in my opinion. They do have nice manes for making horsehair rope and the tails are wonderful for making awsome shuflies. I would like to have a nice big paint rug in my living room, someday I may have to put a paint horse down of my own or find a dead one on the desert for a rug. That mustang challenge deal looks like it would fun to watch. Too bad they don't show all the wrecks when they are "training".
Mustang Blue
Well, I wasn't goping to dignify this with a reply...but I just can't help it.
Your ignorance is showing there Picon Punch.
MANY a mustang has been trained without "wrecks"...and you wouldn't even have your precious QH if it weren't for the mustang.

I'm no going to argue this with you though, it is mute. All I can say is that I know first hand that mustangs are just as good as any other breed out there.

I've adopted and trained several, some are very easy and some more of a challenge, and you should hear the raving of some folks about how great they are on the trail. The first trail ride I did with a freshly trained mustang it was a "been there done that" deal. Really good in rough places cross country, cant call it trail riding, wern't following any trail. They definatly arn't all perfect but no breed is.

Very well said TNbacklander! When it comes t riding the backcountry and (ehem) trails, I'd rather be on a mustang then ANY other breed. But then, that is MY choice andit surely doesn't mean I think everyone should, but I do wish they'd be more open minded and learn more about the breed before opening their mouth and inserting boot, lol.
