Hey everyone, I haven't been on in a while, but I've had one of my horses get lice and now one of my other horses has it. I've heard that worming them with ivermectin should kill them, but I just wormed a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone know if this works or it there is something else that's effective? I still have one horse that hasn't gotten it, ans I sure don't want her to! I've been powdering the one with livestock lice powder, but her mane is still full of eggs and I've powdered her 3 times. I had been checking the other two and they were clear, but I checked my filly yesterday, and her mane is full of eggs (she was totally clear a few days ago). Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!!!

ridecowgirl,

I've never dealt with lice on horses myself, and so I looked it up, all I could really find was that it can be treated with commercial lice treatment, like Farnum's Lice Duster III. I'm sure there is someone else on here that has had to deal with this before, and has some better advice than any I might have, as I seem to have none smile.gif .

I got your note, and the other mare that was in the trailer wreck is fine. I'm going to be working her for the owner a little now in the evenings next week, just to get her back in tune.

Have you read the thread in "Health" yet titled Ivomec Injectable? There are a few mentoins there about it.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the info. I've done some research and I'm going to worm each of them with Zimectrin GOLD, if I can find some sulfur I'm going to give that to them, and I"m going to continue with the powder. I'll try to let everyone know what happens. Thanks again for the help!
