Our last two foals arrived May 9th and 14th. I was trying to sell thier dams, but the market is so poor right now, that I probably couldn't give them away, not that I want to sell them now. Mischief produced a beautiful (mouse colored) dun? overo stud colt and Blue had a super muscled chestnut tovero stud colt. Both colts have full blazed faces. If I can figure out how on this new computer and printer our son bought us, I'll post some pictures.
Mother Nature got the last laugh on us. We gelded our stallion in Feb.; he has sired 6 foals total, 5 stud colts and one filly. We plan to geld the two yearling colt next month, both are looking at the girls and we don't want any more babies, till the market recovers. The girls and us both could use a break.
I'm glad my plan to sell the mares and yearling filly fell apart. I think the bad winter and price increases figured heavily into the plan to sell, but now that spring is here, with all its greenness and new babys are running in the fields, things don't look so bad. Both my jobs have me working overtime now, so that eased the financial strain of supporting 12 horses. Funny how things work out!
