Full Version: any info on this fleming bit would be great

hi im in australia and my husband brought this bit in an second hnd shop and was wondering if any one could tell me any info on it like age, type ,use,what it would be worth ,its stamped fleming its very heavy ,blued metal ,sterling silver ,brass beads ,clicker roller and spade center.
i dont know a lot about these types of bits so i would love to know as much as any one can tell me.

While I don't know anything about this specific bit, I will offer this information about Flemming bits. Dick Flemming bought into a saddle shop in Bakersfield, CA in 1943 and then bought out his partner in 1945 and turned it primarily into a wholesales supply company. He then started importing bits and spurs from Mexican craftsmen and had the Mexicans stamp his name on the pieces. In 1970 he sold the saddle shop and maintained the wholesale end of the business. In 1978 he sold the wholesale business and retired. Dick Flemming is credited with designing a few different mouthpieces. Two that he patented were the Mona Lisa and the San Joaquin. From a collector's view, they are not highly sought after but that doesn't mean they aren't nice pieces.
