Hi! I'm back from a summer of almost no internet connection except at the library. There's a ton of questions I've to ask that i have acumulated over the summer, but the most recent one is about leads. My young QH mare has as, most horses do, a penchant for the left lead. I have been unable, at any extent, to get her to take the right lead. In the round pen, free lunging, she'll take the right lead but as soon as I get on her she won't take the right lead for the life of her. She'll counter canter, cross fire, stumble, go into a trot, pick up the canter again and still be on the left lead. In a big open feild it's the same thing. It dosen't seem to matter how tight a circle we're going in. She still tries to keep the left lead. I have had sucess in laying down a ground pole, cantering her over it and cueing her to switch by opening my right rein just as she is jumping over the pole. That worked a few times but timing is crucial. I"ve heard that these kinda problems just need a lot of flexing a bending the way the horse are having trouble with. Agreed or is there anymore advice? Thanks!
