I'm considering buying a horse named RW Poco Vested Cash - FQH gelding. Here's his pedigreePedigree
I've had some people express concern about Invester - any input?
NW
What are the concerns? Let me guess, there is a rumor out there that Invester bred horses are broncs and are unpredictable. I have heard it before and my wife and I are going through it roght now. She has a liking for horses bred for the show ring and has two Zips Choc Chip granddaughters and has an Invester granddaughter. Rememeber that Zippo Pine Bar and The Invester were both sons of Zippo Pat Bars. They are both on the all time leading sire list for western pleasure horses. Where The Invester sits on the pedigree of this horse, he only contributed 12.5% of the genetic make up of the horse. I hardly think that is a majority or dominanat percentage. Look the horse over, take a couple of knowledgable people with you.

I know the owner very well, and have ridden many of his horses more than once, including this gelding. He seems to be very gentle and good, but as much as I like Quarter Horses, I'm not very well educated on bloodlines. That's mostly why I asked, though, yes, the concerns that I've heard are that Invester horses tend to be unpredictable and a bit fiery.

The Invester granddaughter we have is to go to a futurity show in Nov 09. I will get her started and then send her to a lady to get her ready and prepare her for the futurity. The rider we are going to use and have used in the past for this show voiced concerns about the Invester bloodlines and said they were unpredictable. I asked her what that was based on and she said she rode one other one and it was a bronc. She is basing her predjudice on rumors and her one experience. She then went on to say the samething about another Zippo Pine Bar son's offspring based on one experience she had. I started having second thoughts about the rider because I feel if they prejudge they can't give it their all. I called another trainer that shows at the AQHA world show every year for the past 15 years or so in the pleasure type events. I asked him about Invester horses. His response was that they have been given a bad name because of a couple of bad ones. Let's face it, they are all individuals and I have ridden broncs from all bloodlines.

I happen to like running bred horses and Hancock bred horses. I have heard for many years that running bred horses are flighty and high strung. The ones I raised and rode were all like that, occassionaly I had a few that had big motors. I have heard for many years that Hancock horses are big headed, big footed, broncs. I have yet to see that.

Now when I was a whole lot younger and the Blackburn horses were brought to ND from Texas, they were a bunch of broncs. When I was growing up there were a lot of Hard Twist horses in ND. Now those were unpredictable and broncs. In the past 25 years, there has been so much more emphasis on disposition and rideability in horses, the broncs have pretty much been culled out of breeding programs. I have yet to see a horse in the past 20 years that will buck like the ones I grew up with on the home ranch in the 60s and 70s. I have ridden Blackburn and Hard Twist horses in the past 10 years that were nothing like the close up models. Don't let rumors scareyou off of a good horse.

Thanks for the info. If I can sell one of the mares I've got, I'm going to go ahead and get him. I know I can get him for less than $500 and I think that's pretty good. Again, thanks for all your help! BTW, the post I made earlier about locoweed??, the horse mentioned was a son of Twister's Deacon. I know his bloodlines went back to Hard Twist, but I'm not sure how far back it was. The owner of the Invester horse however, has a mare named Cowgirl Twist and most of her babies have been pretty good. Oh well, I guess you just have to take each horse for what they are, and what they're worth.
