Just heard that the R & J Sale barn at Verndale, MN had a tragic fire yesterday. They were having an AQHA team penning in their indoor arena over the weekend. The count is now 42 horses that died. Seven of these horses were owned by my farrier clients. Many of these horses had just competed in the AQHA World Show this past Nov. I know that three of them that were in the top 10 at the world. The heated barn, sale barn, restaraunt, and tack store were destroyed. The other two barns and the indoor arena were saved.

Foul play is not suspected in the fire, which is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the state fire marshal.

This is a really sad story, a horse owners worst nightmare. What a loss, so sad.
