Hi, I hope that someone can give me some information. I have a saddle that I really love to ride on. It has been passed down to me by a family member. It was made by C D Westmorland and I was wondering if anyone can tell me about that saddle maker. It said it was made in Haskell Oklahoma. Thanks for the time!
GRIZZLY SADDLERY

Hi
I worked with him back around 1970 one summer when i was 16, he worked at his house but his saddles were sold through the Tulsa stock yards, they had a western store back then. He was a diabetic and would only work half days sometimes. He told me if i remeber this right that he was either 2nd or 3rd generation saddle maker. he was pretty well known in that area. I've tried to find infromation out about him too, but have had no luck, I live in Texas now so the internet has been no help. He was a real good artist, in his house he had pictures tooled in leather, mainly indian pictures. I watched him tool saddles with no patterns like most would do, myself included. He would take a stirrup leather and lay it on the bench take a compass put some circles on it then start tooling it turning the cicles in to roses and filling the rest with vine work, then lay the other one next to it put the circles in the same place and do it all over again, I have yet to see another saddle maker do that kind of work without drawing it out and then tracing to the leather. I have an Uncle that still lives in Oklahoma and has one of his saddles, my next trip there I want to find one for me just to have it. I would love to see a picture of the saddle you have.
I don't know if this helps, but i hope it does.
