Randy Steffen artwork needed! -- oils, bronzes, illustrations, drawings -- to include in an art retrospective exhibit at Cisco Junior College in Cisco, TX. Randy was a prolific artist and died in 1977; his wife not many years after that. The College owns his research library and papers and had an exhibit 25 years ago when his wife was still living. I have had very little luck locating pieces in museums. I think much of his work must be in private collections, and received information yesterday (3-17-09) from his former sculpting student that all of Randy's bronzes are in private collections. I would like to hear from anyone who owns some of his beautiful bronzes. His work garnered the American Exemplar Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge and the Americana Award from American Airlines, to name two recognitions. This amazing artist was born on a southwest Texas ranch, graduated from the Naval Academy, worked as a stuntman in Hollywood westerns, broke horses in Nevada, rounded up wild mustangs on government contract, trained polo ponies in California, published a periodical in Texas, wrote magazine articles, illustrated books, illustrated Roy Rogers and Gene Autry comics and books, and carefully researched and illustrated a four volume set on the horse soldier through history that is considered the cavalary re-enactors' bible. Four commissioned original oils are owned by the American Quarter Horse Assn. in Amarillo. He designed the Western Horseman office building in Colorado Spgs., the only building design that I can find that he did. He has a massive piece hanging in a local bank and was commissioned by an Alabama bank to paint 6 Civil War "Valiant Confederates" pieces. His entire life was devoted to art and so far the pieces are difficult to find. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
