Just a wonderin', can horses get fleas? If their in stalls a lot maybe? Question popped up when a friend's dog got fleas and now she's paranoid that her horse will get them.

There has been no confirm studies (to my knowledge) indicating that horses can get fleas. They do however get ticks and lice.

A few years back, if you google the Suzie Rose case from Moorecroft WY, I'm not positive, but I think I remember something about those horses having fleas, ticks and lice.

I know in south Alabama, the horses would roll in the sand, and get what we always called sand fleas, used a vinegar rinse to keep them off as would leave little sore places, but fleas as dogs/cats don't thing I have heard of that. Will look up Rose case though.
Horses can occasionally get fleas but it isn't very common. Conditions have to be pretty bad for it to happen. Fleas typically feed on smaller animals because the skin is thinner and easier for them to draw blood. Fleas also prefer animals that have denser hair coats. They need the thicker hair for protection.
